What Is Concrete Grinding?

Concrete Grinding is a process used to smooth and prepare concrete surfaces by removing imperfections and irregularities. This involves the use of specialized grinding machines equipped with diamond-segmented abrasives. The grinding process typically consists of multiple stages, starting with a coarse grit to remove larger imperfections, and progressively using finer grits to achieve a smoother surface. Concrete grinding is essential for various reasons:

Surface Preparation: Grinding removes old coatings, adhesives, and other surface contaminants, creating a clean and smooth base for new coatings or finishes.

Leveling Uneven Floors: It corrects uneven surfaces, ensuring that the floor is level and suitable for further finishing.

Concrete Polishing is a multi-step process that transforms a concrete surface into a smooth, high-gloss finish. Polishing involves the use of progressively finer diamond polishing pads to achieve the desired level of shine and smoothness. The process not only enhances the appearance of the concrete but also improves its durability and ease of maintenance. Key aspects of concrete polishing include:

Surface Refinement: Polishing begins with a coarse grind to remove any remaining imperfections from the grinding process, followed by finer grits to achieve a smooth surface.

Densifying: A densifier is often applied to the concrete to harden the surface, filling in pores and increasing the concrete’s density and durability.

Polishing Pads: Specialized polishing pads with increasingly finer grits are used to achieve the desired level of sheen, from a matte finish to a mirror-like gloss.

Troika Polish

Ace Avant offers the Troika Polishing System – a 3-head Planetary Attachment that attaches to a skid steer. With the Troika system, up to 10,000 square feet of open floor can be polished to completion in a single day. This system achieves walk-behind quality with the added speed of three heads, making it ideal for large, open areas. The Troika System is best suited for open floors greater than 10,000 square feet. This method ensures uniformity and consistency in the polish, providing a sleek and professional finish suitable for commercial and industrial applications.

Power Trowel Polish

Power Trowel Polishing is a cost-saving system. When used alone, it is ideal for a simplified system where extremely flat, well-placed floors can attain a good polish. This system often takes the same time as several walk-behind machines, working to attain the same class of aggregate and appearance of polish. Power Trowel Polishing is particularly effective for large-scale projects where efficiency and time-saving are critical. The system can quickly cover expansive areas, making it perfect for warehouses, factories, and other large facilities that require a durable and attractive flooring solution.

Walk-Behind Polish

In many instances, walk-behind polishers are the only option. We offer both wet and dry grinding, as well as electric or propane options with these machines. These are best suited for office/retail buildings and upfit projects. Walk-behind polishers provide flexibility and precision, making them ideal for detailed work and smaller areas that require a high level of finish. This method allows for greater control over the grinding and polishing process, ensuring that every inch of the floor meets the highest standards of quality. Walk-behind polishers are also excellent for reaching tight corners and edges, ensuring a consistent finish throughout the entire space.
