Concrete Surface Treatments and Coatings
Concrete Floor Hardeners, Densifiers, Sealers:
Concrete surfaces should be properly treated to ensure proper performance. Penetrating floor hardeners, densifiers, and sealers are a great way to treat interior concrete surfaces, especially with commercial and industrial concrete floors where material handling operations occur. A concrete floor that has been treated with a silicate densifier floor hardener, will increase abrasion resistance, protect, and seal the surface so that it becomes dust proof.
Silicate Densifiers Explained:
Silicate densifiers work to help seal masonry, concrete, and other portland cement based materials into a mass that is more solid and dense than it was before it was treated. The chemistry that takes place is that the silicate reacts with the calcium hydroxide, to form calcium silicate hydrate (CSH); the same material that is produced in the reaction between portland cement and water. A silicates ability to penetrate deep into the pores and capillaries of the concrete structure is what allows it to seal and harden deep into the surface structure.
Types of Silicate Densifiers:
Although there are many different types of silicate densifiers. Sodium silicates, sodium silicanates, lithium silicates, and potassium silicates are the four most common types that are available. These compounds have variations of metallic salts and there are difference in the ratios of silica too. Other variances include PH level, molecular size, application method, and application coverage rate. However, these compounds all have one thing in common – they are using the silica or silicanate to react with the calcium hydroxide to produce calcium silicate hydrate (CSH. The sodium, lithium, and potassium are just a molecular vehicle that the silica must attach itself to.
What Type of Densifier is Best You?
Our Specialty Division staff have years of experience and have tens of millions of square feet of densifier experience under their belts. Whether your project is a million square foot distribution center, or polished concrete on an existing slab, we will make the proper recommendation for your specific project need, circumstance, and budget.
Epoxy and Resinous Flooring Systems:
Ace/Avant’s Specialty Division offers a wide array of resinous flooring systems to meet a wide range of budgets, as well the particular coating system need for the environment and intended use of space.
Whether you need a coating system that needs to withstand floor moisture vapor for use underneath a floorcovering, or you need a coating that can withstand harsh battery acids, we have many coating system options available and can work with architects, owners, or GC’s to make the best coating system recommendation and selection for your particular needs.
Other Types of Concrete Sealers and Protective Coatings:
Ace/Avant’s Specialty Division has access to and experience in applying a wide variety of concrete sealers and other types of protective coatings. Some of the various sealers and protective coatings are:
- Acrylic Sealers
- Polyurethane Sealers
- Mehtylmethacrylate (MMA)
- UV Cured Sealers
